sydney street photography workshops with julia coddington and gerry orkin

about us

Julia Coddington and Gerry Orkin are internationally recognised street photographers now conducting workshops in Sydney.

Maciej Dakowicz, In Public member, street photography educator and mentor says of us:

Julia and Gerry are very talented street photographers with their own unique voices. They are very knowledgable about the art of photography, and the technical aspects too. They are very open and happily share their knowledge and experience. They care. It is also fun to be with them - you will not only learn, but also have a good time.

Our students tell us that our workshops are incredibly good value, lots of fun, very inspiring, and that we provide great insights.

what you'll learn

Our workshops area suitable for avid street photographers as well as anyone just starting to shoot street.

They provide an opportunity to meet other photographers and take on creative challenges that will grow your skills and develop your street photography vision.

Each workshop starts with a quick introduction session, and then we’ll go out shooting at locations around the city. During the workshop you’ll work on mini projects that will help you to start seeing new possibilities for great street photographs. We’ll be out there shooting alongside you, giving you tips and advice.

The workshop will finish at a pub or cafe, where we’ll review the session and talk street. In the days following the session you’ll share your best work from the day online in our private Facebook group, and Julia and Gerry will give personalised feedback to each student.

The workshop will help you be more courageous on the street and think more flexibly and creatively about what makes a great street photograph.

the nitty gritty

Workshop requirements:

  • A digital camera (even a smart phone!) that you already know how to use
  • Plenty of room on your memory card and a couple of fully charged batteries
  • One lens. We recommend a wide-angle prime lens. We discourage the use of a zoom lens. This workshop is about learning to get close.
  • Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, water bottle
  • Enthusiasm!

The workshop fee covers tuition, guidance and post-workshop feedback. All other costs (transport, food and drinks) are your responsibility.
